The Orchestra’s debut performance at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Wednesday night was simply spectacular. Manuel Laureano and Michael Gast, principal trumpet and principal horn respectively, were unanimously dubbed the “heros of the evening” for their stellar solo work in Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Financial services company, ING, hosted a post-concert reception where the head of the festival remarked that although it had taken the entire 103 year history of the Minnesota Orchestra to perform there, he sincerely hoped they’d return much sooner next time. Judging from the whoops of appreciation from the musicians, the chances seem good. All in all, the concert was a perfect start to the tour.
